[CAMPUS SPOTLIGHT] International Admissions at NYU-Poly

[Source: NYU-Poly]

Founded in 1854, NYU-Poly is the nation’s second-oldest private engineering school. Today, it is a world-class technological research university, rooted in a 160-year tradition of invention, innovation and entrepreneurship. It remains on the cutting edge of technology, innovatively extending the benefits of science, engineering, management and liberal studies to meet critical real-world opportunities and challenges, especially those linked to urban systems, health and wellness, and the global information economy. In 2014, NYU-Poly will complete its merger with New York University, the largest private university in the United States, to become the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering.

International Undergraduate Admissions

International applicants who wish to be considered for admission to NYU-Poly for spring 2014 (transfers only) or fall 2014 will be applying directly to New York University via the Common Application. Applicants will follow the requirements and deadlines set forth by New York University and check-off the appropriate box for the Polytechnic School of Engineering. All international applicants who wish to be considered for need-based financial aid and merit scholarship must also complete the CSS Profile by the deadlines set forth by New York University.

Financial Aid

The cost of a college education is a matter of concern for many students and their families. Regardless of your family's financial circumstances, paying for college will probably require a substantial commitment of your resources over the next several years. It may surprise you to learn that most full-time undergraduate students at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University would not be able to pay their educational costs without financial assistance. These students are able to attend NYU-Poly only because they applied for, and received, financial aid. At NYU-Poly, more than 89% of full-time undergraduate students receive financial aid.

If you believe you will need financial assistance to enable you to attend NYU-Poly, please apply for financial aid. Your decision to apply for financial aid will have no bearing on the admissions decision.

International Graduate Admissions

General Requirements

To be eligible for admission as a graduate student, you must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution involving a minimum of four years of full-time study
  • Have achieved a cumulative average of “B” (GPA of 3.0/4.0) in your major
  • Complete the GRE exam (or GMAT exam for Technology Management programs)

Attention will be given to the listing of schools by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Computer Science Accreditation Board (CSAB), and by the various regional accrediting associations.

If you wish to enter a graduate field of study different from the undergraduate field in which you earned your bachelor’s degree, you must anticipate the possibility of taking prerequisite courses for which graduate credit may not be given.

NOTE: Some majors and programs have additional requirements and application procedures. Review online descriptions or contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for details.

Financing Graduate School

NYU-Poly's robust Graduate Student Employment and Training (GSET) program allows eligible graduate students to offset the cost of their tuition with paid, on-campus jobs related to their field of study. These positions are similar to internships in the way that they’re designed to provide you not just with financial support, but also to enhance your educational experience and prepare you for a career in industry, research, teaching or entrepreneurship. Positions are competitive, and offered to a limited number of graduate students.
