The University of Montana is welcoming international students with open arms.

Despite a drop in overall enrollment last year, the school saw a record number of international students, at 832, according to The Independent Record, a Helena, Mont. newspaper. This week, the Record featured the school in an in-depth profile about the rapid growth of its international student population, which has nearly doubled in the last five years.

Even amid budget cuts, the school is also adding another recruiter to its Office of International Programs, the Record reported.

Still, the school isn’t the only one seeing a rise in its international student population.

"I think it just comes with the general growth of the numbers of international students in the U.S.," Paulo Zagalo-Melo, director of the school’s Office of International Programs, told the Record. "We are only now, during this school year, really changing our recruitment strategies and implementing new strategies, and hopefully getting some new resources for international recruitment."
