Campus Spotlight: University of Southern Mississippi

Located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi provides international students with assistance and support through a variety of services both before and after submitting their application. Some of these services include support with adjusting to life in the U.S., health insurance and emergency medical services, and a variety of extracurricular activities.

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) offers over 140 undergraduate academic programs and nine on-campus residence halls. Graduate students have over 200 master's and doctoral programs. Outside the classroom, there is a wealth of arts and culture, as well as some beautiful beaches, to explore in the Gulf Coast region.



Last year Great Value Colleges called Hattiesburg one of the most affordable colleges towns in the U.S.

Undergraduate International Student Requirements:
  • Undergraduate international online application
  • $35 application fee
  • Official high-school transcript
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS scores sent by the testing agency
  • Official ACT/SAT score (recommended but not required to complete application)
Some international students at USM participate in a bicycle loan program.

Graduate International Student Requirements:
  • Online application
  • $60 application fee
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS scores
  • Official copy of GRE, GMAT or MAT score
  • Official copies of transcripts from all previous colleges or universities attended
  • Official copies of degree certificates or diplomas for all previous degrees completed
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Statement of purpose
  • TOEFL: minimum of 71 (IBT), 525 (PBT)
  • IELTS: minimum of 6.0
